Work A Miracle

How often are we asked, 'What is God doing about…?' Or sometimes 'All you do is talk, why don't you do something?' Perhaps these questions are not only asked of us by others, but sometimes they shout at us from inside our own hearts.

We believe in a God who works miracles. We believe in a God who invites us to work with him in working miracles.

The statistics about HIV/AIDS are overwhelming: more than 25 million people have died of AIDS since 1981, Africa has 12 million AIDS orphans, by the end of 2005, women accounted for 48% of all adults living with HIV worldwide, and for 59% in sub-Saharan Africa, young people (15-24 years old) account for half of all new HIV infections worldwide - around 6,000 become infected with HIV every day, in developing and transitional countries, 6.8 million people are in immediate need of life-saving AIDS drugs; of these, only 1.65 million are receiving the drugs. Such statistics tend to leave me asking 'What can I do when there is so much need?' We need a miracle.'

Tearfund have launched a new campaign Work A Miracle. Stopping AIDS. All together. Nothing is impossible with God, working together with God, together with Tearfund partners, together with Christians around the world, together as Forward Together we can be part of this miracle stopping the spread of this disease, providing care and treatment for those already suffering.

I hope that Forward Together members will support this campaign: wear a red ribbon with the Work A Miracle pin badge, sign up to support the appeal month by month, encourage others to learn about HIV/AIDS, pray for the victims of this pandemic, enquire about speakers from Tearfund coming to your congregation or prayer group. Pray for this new campaign Work A Miracle, pray for the work of Pete Chirnside and others in the Glasgow office, pray that the Church of Scotland will soon officially recognise Tearfund as a partner relief agency.
